Civil Flag of the Republic of Bolivia (1888)
República de Bolivia

Originally part of Spanish controlled Peru, Bolivia seceded from Peru and became an independent
country on the 6th of August 1825 under the leadership of General Simon Bolivar.

The current flag design was introduced in 1851 and officially adopted on the 14th of July 1888.

The state flag has the same three red, yellow and green stripes with the coat of arms centred on the yellow stripe. Its current design dates from circa 1966.

The Symbolic Meaning

Red symbolizes the bravery and blood of those who fought for a free and independent Bolivia.

Yellow symbolizes Bolivia's mineral resources, at the same time representing the original Incas who inhabited the land and made use of the rich resources.

Green represents Bolivia's fertile land, hope for the future, evolution and progress.
