The Battle
Flag of Australia |
|
Over the years three different sets of colours have been associated with Australia:
Red, white and blue, appeared on the nation’s first coat of arms, adopted in 1908 and are the colours in the national flag.
Blue and gold, appear on the current national coat of arms, adopted in 1912.
Green and gold have been used as national colours by Australian sport since the late 19th century and have been connected with many significant Australian sporting achievements.
Its long association with sport has seen green and gold achieve wide popular acceptance as the national colours.
The Governor-General of Australia officially proclaimed green and gold as Australia’s national colours on the 19th of April 1984. |
